Our mission statement says, “The mission of Wellspring Academy is to educate and equip students to become highly skilled, godly leaders and agents of community transformation.“
Our goal is to produce students with a high sense of social responsibility characterized by:
- Responsibility towards individual, school, public properties.
- care and service in meeting each other’s needs at the physical, spiritual and emotional levels.
- Commitment to Biblical values of the family, community and nation.
Encouraging Participation with the Community
We encourage students to develop relationships with the wider community and be encouraged to respond to the community’s needs. For example:
Early Child Development Outreach
As was reported in Kigali Today, students from Wellspring Academy in Kigali have taken the initiative to support underprivileged children, particularly those born to teenage mothers, by donating their pocket money and earnings from small fundraising activities.
Moved by the struggles of teenage parents and their children, the students researched and chose to assist the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center in Ibuga Village, Kicukiro District. This center, supported by the organization Hope and Homes for Children, provides care and early education to 105 children, many of whom are from vulnerable backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
Led by Lys Marie Umuratwa, the students raised funds by selling cakes and donated essential supplies such as 80 kg of sugar, 100 kg of sorghum flour, clothes, and shoes. The initiative is grounded in a spirit of service inspired by Christian teachings, particularly Matthew 20:28 – “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” The students pledge to continue their efforts and urge other youth from well-off families to join the cause.
Meanwhile, local authorities and advocates emphasize the ongoing needs of teenage mothers and children, pointing to a lack of resources and international aid. They stress the importance of partnerships and community support, highlighting the example set by Wellspring Academy students.
